The Sri Lankan government has lifted a ban on burying those who have died of the corona virus.
According to foreign media, a spokesman for the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health has confirmed that the controversial ban has been lifted by the government.
The Sri Lankan government has banned the burial of those who have died of the corona virus and ordered cremation, which has drawn strong criticism from the international community, especially the Muslim community.
There were also protests in the country against the Sri Lankan government’s move, which the government lifted a few months later.
According to media reports, the Sri Lankan government had justified the ban by saying that burying the dead could lead to the spread of the virus through groundwater, but Muslim communities rejected the government’s position.
Muslim communities said there was no scientific justification for the government’s decision and that cremating the body instead of burying it was against Islamic beliefs.
According to media reports, during the recent visit of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan to Sri Lanka, Sri Lankan Muslim Assembly members had asked him to discuss the matter with the government.
On the other hand, the Muslim communities in Sri Lanka had recently staged a protest in front of the President’s office and demanded immediate lifting of the ban on burials.
The World Health Organization (WHO) also said there was no harm in burying a person who had died from the corona virus.
