LAHORE: Railway Minister Senator Azam Khan Swati has said that the chairman NAB has been asked to hang the officer who has committed theft or corruption.
Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Azam Swati said, “Give me at least 6 months to a year and then hold me accountable. We are running the railways, not the IMF. Give me at least a year and see what changes are taking place.” ۔
He said that the railways has been made a charitable institution, the Prime Minister has been told that Rs 1.3 trillion has sunk in the railways, the same officer will take the railways out of deficit with the new business model, I will definitely come to Lahore once a month and the media I will inform you about the situation of railways.
He said that if I facilitate the officers and laborers then the train will run according to the business model, our focus with the passengers is on freight, running schools and hospitals is not my job.
The Railway Minister said that we were asked to give an account of 100 days but the perpetrators of 30 years of devastation were not asked. The project started in 2008, the signal correction project was 95 or 96 percent complete in 2012, there are 3 NAB cases on corruption and irregularities in the project.
He said that the chairman has requested the NAB to decide these references within a week as there are problems due to lack of signal.
Azam Swati said that Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal has promised to punish corrupt officers. I have also told him to hang the officer who has committed theft or corruption.
