BOSTON: The auction of the world’s first and historic ‘Apple One’ computer is set to begin soon at an auction house in the United States, with bids starting at USD 50,000 (approximately PKR 8 million).
According to the details, the online auction will start on December 10 on the website of the famous Boston auction house “RR Auction” and will end on December 17. It is expected that this historic computer will be auctioned at a very high price.
Built-in 1976, the computer is said to have been hand-crafted by Apple Corps founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak and was priced at 500 USD, which was a hefty sum at the time.
At the time, the model was simply called “Apple Computer”, in which a small black and white television was converted into a computer monitor in addition to a clumsy “keyboard”.
In addition to the aforementioned equipment, the world’s the first Apple computer also includes a user manual and a few audio cassettes that users could learn to use by reading and listening to this “new invention.”
There is something special about the “Apple One” computer that has been put up for auction: its user manual and cassettes are also signed by Steve Wozniak.
In 1976, 200 such computers were made, of which 175 were sold. Over time, most of these computers have broken down and there are currently only 63 “Apple One” computers left in the world, while only 6 of them are usable.
The Apple One computer at the Boston auction house is owned by an engineer named Corey Cohen. The computer had broken down and was put up for auction after being repaired and re-used by Cohen.
