It is believed that Iranian forces are supporting the Syrian government in the ongoing civil war in Syria.
Regarding his visit, Amir Hatami said, “Not only the people of the region of the world are involved in the war fought against terrorists in Syria.”
During the meeting with Syrian President Bashar Assad, Amir Hatami said that the ‘Between the two countries are strong and they hope that soon Syria will be released and Syrian refugees will return.’
According to the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) on the other hand, during the press conference in Damascus, he said that during his two-day visit, he also met his Syrian counterpart Ali Abdullah al-Ayub and discussed the current situation with ‘Takfiri groups’.
It is believed that Iranian authorities generally list Sunni militant groups as ‘Takfiris’.
Amir Hammati said that Iran will help Syria increase its military strength because the Islamic State has a lot of potential capabilities that will help to increase the Syrian military equipment.
Clearly, US National Security Advisor Johann Bolton told last week that Iran should withdraw its troops back from Syria.
However, the Iranian Defense Minister said that his forces were present in Syria on the invitation of Syrian President Bashar Assad and no plans were taken immediately for their return.
“Iran will help Syria rebuild and we hope we can play a key role in rebuilding Syria,” he added.
